March 18, 2015, 6:30 – 7:30 pm: Likes and Follows

This panel aims to discuss how high-speed technological changes and an increasing web presence have influenced the distribution of art. It takes a critical look at online self-presentation of artists, galleries and public art institutions and examines alternate online distribution platforms. The panellists discuss the effects of image making tools such as glossy webpages, instagram likes, digitally enhanced installation shots on both art producers and art consumers. It analyses the artificial making of an artist’s career through a continuous stream of newsfeeds, facebook likes and online chatter and debates the effects on the production of art in a world where the initial point of contact is viewed through a screen.

Panellists include: Jacky Klein (art historian, writer, and head of Tate Publishing), Eugenio Re Rebaudengo (collector and founder of online art platform ARTUNER), Ciara Moloney (exhibitions curator at Modern Art Oxford), Marie Jacotey (artist).

January 29, 2015, 6:30 – 8 pm: Artists in conversation with Sacha Craddock

Independent art critic and curator Sacha Craddock discusses figurative painting practices in the context of the exhibition Figuratively Speaking curated by Marcelle Joseph. Participating artists include Carla Busuttil, Eileen Cooper (RA), Grant Foster, and Benjamin Senior.

May 10, 2014, 10 am – noon: Porcelain artist Claudia Biehne

German born porcelain artist Claudia Biehne leads a presentation about the technical and creative process behind her practice. Claudia will discuss how technological advances have pushed the limitations of the medium and explains the fusion of the artistic with the artisan in installative sculpture.
